Product literacy

Keep product fit separate from self-worth

An item's dimensions belong in a practical decision about that item. They are not a score for the person choosing it.

Describe the task, not an ideal body

Start with the manufacturer's intended use and your practical requirements. Think about controls, grip, cleaning, and storage as well as dimensions. A useful buying brief describes what you need to understand. It does not ask whether you qualify for the product shown in an advertisement.

Compare like with like

Check which measurement a listing gives and what it includes. Total length, usable length, diameter, and circumference describe different things. If the label is unclear, ask the seller. Do not use a photograph beside a person's hand as a reliable substitute for written dimensions.

Question upgrade language

An upgrade may mean a different feature, a changed material, or simply a more expensive version. Ask what has actually changed and whether it addresses a need you named. A bigger or more complicated item is not automatically a better choice for your circumstances.

Allow a neutral outcome

A product can be unsuitable without saying anything negative about your body. You may choose a different model, need more information, or decide not to buy. If a health concern or persistent distress is driving the comparison, discuss that concern with a qualified professional rather than expecting a purchase to resolve it.

Compare exact models against a short personal brief

Write down the intended use, budget, controls, dimensions, care routine and any privacy requirements. Record the source for each fact and leave undisclosed details marked unknown. More settings or a premium label cannot decide which option fits your requirements.

Read the seller, delivery, warranty and opened-item returns terms before paying. If an unanswered question would change your decision, ask it first. You can postpone or choose nothing; this guide does not claim hands-on testing or a universal winner.
